EOSC Ireland: Developing the National Node
The 12-month EOSC-IE project is advancing the development of a national node for the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), positioning Ireland within a federated European ecosystem for sharing data, tools, and research services.
This national effort involving 11 partners from the sector, with Asiera as co-ordinator, focuses on defining a sustainable, interoperable model that brings together Ireland’s existing research infrastructures, expertise, and services into a more coordinated and impactful framework. The project directly addresses fragmentation across the research landscape, aligning national investments in data, compute, and connectivity, to better support FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data practices and open research.
This presentation will outline the emerging architecture, governance model, and operational framework planned for EOSC-IE, including its alignment with the broader EOSC Federation. It will explore how Ireland is preparing for formal enrolment into this European infrastructure, ensuring compliance with key requirements such as authentication and authorisation (AAI), service monitoring, and interoperability standards.
EOSC-IE positions Ireland to contribute to, and benefit from, a Europe-wide ‘web of FAIR data and services’ that supports more efficient, transparent, and reproducible research, and represents a critical step in positioning Ireland within a global, data-driven research environment that enables collaboration at scale while reinforcing trust, transparency, and impact in research.
